This paper begins with white light broken into a spectrum, then describes additive and subtractive color systems to reproduce images; we move through the limits of reproduction, adaptions and comparative advantages of different methods (RGB, CMY, color different systems such as YUV, YIQ and XYZ), traversing film and video capture, digitization, gamma correction, defining many terms in image reproduction and how they are related. The audience will gain an understanding for how multiple factors work together in capture and presentation systems, to form a better understanding for how to manage colorspace, including the transform from analog to the digital domain. This presentation, which runs a full 60 minutes, has previously been given at AMIA 2012, as well as in workshops.
